The Local Show again

I have enjoyed this weekend immensely since we didn't have to run out and play a show. But it all starts up again next week when we are going on the 1057ThePoint Local Show at Pops, again. Hopefully it'll be better this time around, not that it was bad last time, but we could've played better.

We've also added Saturday November 11th to our schedule, as we're playing at The Red Sea again. Last time things went very well, and it was a welcoming experience to come back and play there again. I'm expecting shows to be announced in Columbia any day now, seeing as how successful our outing was two weeks ago.

Gary bought a real .com for the website, so check out www.notjustnoise.com to see the site sans banner ads!

Power on

For those of you who aren't in St. Louis, you missed the storm of the century last weds night. It was so bad that I've heard rumours there was a tornado touching down on telegraph rd. I wouldn't know since I've been without power since last weds. The power company finally got power restored here last night, but I didn't wait around. I took off and went to our lake house friday night, after we rocked the fuck out of Columbia at the Sapphire Lounge.

Making this short and sweet, since I've got loads and loads of laundry to be done, the Columbia show kicked much ass. Barrett from 100.1 The Buzz contacted us to say he'd been playing out track Sugar and Spice regularly on their local show and it's been recieving good feedback. There were around 50 people at the bar I'd guess, and The Sapphire Lounge has definately cleaned up a bit since it was The Down Under Bar.

Decadent Nation was the fucking shit! Tim's friend and singer Colin, from Decadant Nation, was a fuckin stud. This guy can sing, scream, and he's a showman. He works the stage like Mick Jagger or Scott Weiland. They were good, real good. It sounds like we are going to be hitting Columbia more often now, because this little road trip was very successful.

All in all, it was a great show. We had much applause, a loud crowd and the weather was perfect. Didn't even need the a/c after the cool front came through. Everyone in the crowd was either dancing, or cheering, or getting down in some fashion. It was awsome.

And now only four days late: The Colbert Corner

Updates, more updates...

Well since it's thursday that means a new weekly feature that I've decided to start posting, and that is... a weekly Colbert clip for my man Marty. Marty is a fellow Colbert fan, so in addition to the normal, boring posts, I'll be sharing some of my favorite comedic-politcal tv moments.

Also: Check the NJN website for new show information, because we are like a train about to run off the tracks, we've got so many shows going on.

Breaking News...

This just in, NJN is playing this saturday night, July 15th at The Red Sea. This was a surprise to me when I got the call, but the bar contacted us and asked if we would play on saturday night because they had a band that supposedly draws a crowd, and they wanted a good opener. Our reluctancy to play The Red Sea again not withstanding, we've decided to do this to establish ourselves once again in the Delmar Loop...not that I'd consider this place a premiere joint in the loop. This will make 3 weekends in a row with shows, and then July 21st we play in Columbia MO, so we'll have played shows 4 weeks in a row, nice.

And now some pictures from our last Just Bills show. If you look closely, you can see the look of sickness on Tim's face!

The Local Show

Last night NJN played the local show at Pops. What can you say about Pops besides it's lovely location of Sauget Ill, population 250 and dropping. Pops, sandwiched in between 3 titty bars and the sound guy apparently doesn't know how to properly mix a cd. This is the second time we've been burned with getting our stuff recorded at bars and the cd quality is horrid.

There were five bands and at least 150 people there. We sold 43 tickets, but another band sold 100 and another sold 60, so there were a freakin ton of people there. Many people to fuck up in front of. And while we botched one song so incredibly bad that we could automatically count ourselves out of the competition for Pointfest, the rest of the set was mostly error free.

We got to play Sunshine live on the radio, with introduction by Point DJ Cornbread, all 95 pounds of him. The one good mark on the night was that our radio sond sounded really good, at least to us. Then we got the cd and heard how bad the mix was. Later when we got home, my sister recorded the live track on her radio and you could barely hear the guitar. I don't know if that was Tim's fault of the bars. Because Tim fucked up bad.

Tim has this rule he ingrained in us going as far back as when Mike was playing with us, I'm sure Mike even remembers the rule he made: that you never stop playing if you make a mistake, you keep going no matter what, you keep playing at all costs. This is his rule and last night he fucked up. He messed somethign up and decided to just stop playing, for like 35 seconds. For an entire second verse he stopped playing, dead air from him. And as soon as I hear this I immediately think they are stopping us to do our live song (Tim said they would stop us for our local song when they were ready.) So at that point, I stop and it's only Heather and Gary...and Gary starts slowing down, almost stopping...and then I come back in because I didn't know what else to do...and then Tim finally comes back when he feels like it. It was the worst thing that could have happened in front of the most people we're ever played in front of, all because he didn't follow his own rules.

By that point I was pretty dissappointed with the night, only on the 2nd song. Regardless of whether we played the rest of the set, and regardless of us playing our live radio song well, I was pissed and wanted to just end the night. All because of that fuck up in the 2nd song. I looked at Tim, and he looked back at me when I stopped playing, and he didn't even try to say, "keep going." All manner of thoughts entered my mind, like he broke a string, or the bar lost power (its happened before), or his amp blew, or, or, or, or, or.... But it just came down to him thinking he'll just wait awhile to come back in, because I guess you wouldn't notice something like the lead guitar, just dissappearing.

Last night was good and bad, but I'm mostly dissappointed.

Just Bills is Just Loud

Yet another show is in the books for NJN and still we've got the 1057The Point Local show coming up this coming sunday. It's just nonstop with NJN, thats how we roll.

Points of note from the Just Bills show... Tim was sick, sick like he was gonna pass out on stage. I told him to get that VD taken care of on his vocal chords, but he says he likes the way it tastes. I also got to see Lung Dust, who are pretty good and probably more my style than any other band there. I heard their drummer had a $2000 snare drum... and then watched Gary drool.

Practice is tonight, but if Tim comes and gets us all sick I'm gonna kick his non-meat-eating ass back to St. Charles. Tim no longer lives in the ghetto, he lives in St. Charles, which is so far that even the crime from the ghetto won't follow Tim there.
