punks

Last night at band practice some punks egged my car. I left practice and went to a carwash and washed the shit off. When I came back to practice everyone was surprised that I came back. Why? I didn't leave angry, I just left to clean my car up. Now if I'd have seen who did it I'd have flipped and done something stupid I am certain.

Shows are all up in the air and I'm not happy. First of all I've got Gary trying to book shit where we are expected to use our PA. We don't have a PA, we have a guitar head with a couple speakers my dad put back together and isn't capable of handling a show. If we blow them up like Tim originally did, we're fucked. That means Heather no longer has something to sing through because I'm not going to ask my dad to get some more speakers. So I guess if Gary wants to relive the days of having to sing through a tiny little practice amp where you can never hear them, well ok then.

Not to mention trying to book us with bands that really suck. I won't name names, because chances are anyone who reads this will know, but I'd rather play with Johnny Hyperdrive than those fucktards.

And what the fuck is up with pushing for the Mardicrawl so goddamn much. I've got school, it's plain and simple. If we play after 11 it is possible, I say possible that I could do it. But we'll see what Daniel says, as he was looking for 7-9pm. Play it acoustic, I don't fucking care. That's just what I want to do, haul all our shit down to st. louis center and carry it through a fucking mall and play in between two other bands where the sound is all mixed together like the huge clusterfuck that it will be. I personally hope he can't give us that late of a slot, because I've no desire for it.

almost over

I cannot wait to get class over with tonight because that means the weekend is finally here. This has been a long week, what with work and school nearly every day. Tommorow I'm off, as I don't work on fridays, and no school thank god. Even though I know I've got shit to read over the weekend the fact still remains I get to take it easy for the next three days once I get out of class tonight. And that's the bad part, I've got a 3 hour class tonight with some nutty teacher. I'm going to go spare.

I'm trying to look forward to the fact that tommorow night a bunch of us are going to Uno's over in crestwood for some deep dish pizza and maybe bowling afterward. Then saturday I've got studio time with the band, but hopefully it won't be too terribly long since we're just doing some mixing. I'm sure something will be going on saturday night too, but I don't know what yet. I haven't seen Matthew in what seems like ages, maybe I'll see him this weekend.

I heard about some fucked up shit in the news this week, but now I can't remember what that was. But I do recall hearing that Sammy Sosa is only being offered a minor league contract by the Nationals and he's all up in arms because he hit a shitload of homeruns a few years ago. Ahh, but then the league went rampant with steroid testing and there was also that little incident with the cork in his bat that I don't think he ever recovered from. Ahh, it's funny. I hate Sammy Sosa.

Today is

Apparently yesterday and today are supposed to be the two most depressing days of the year. Supposedly because it's cold, usually snowing, there aren't any holidays coming up and most likely after all that holiday spending there are now plently of holiday bills showing up. Me personally, I haven't opened up those two envelopes from my credit card companies that are sitting on my dresser. I already know what they say without opening them.

Practice is tonight, as Gary cancelled it yesterday. I've learned to not even bother caring at this point. Just tell me when. Trying to question it is pointless. But that's it. I've got the evening free because I got my homework down last night, but after practice I'll probably come home and relax. Unless I'm off work, then who knows. Tim wants to go see the gay cowboy movie tonight, again. Apparently he really likes gay cowboys.

The stink of smoke

Last night was quite a bit of fun, and I glad I got to get out and do something different for a change. Tim, Heather, Marty and myself went to the Hi Pointe to see The Bureau last night and it was a really good time. One thing I can say for The Bureau is they pack that fucking place, although Tim was trying to tell me that the time we played there with Vallium there were more people. I don't remember just how packed it was that night, but that it was standing room only. The opening bands were so-so, as there was a good singer/songwriter doing a solo act and after him was this hippie/spoken word/rap/rock act with a black singer and a trippy guitarist wearing a bathrobe and they vaguely reminded me of The Rollins Band, but with more soul and less anger. The Bureau played a great set and made me want to play with them just a little bit more.

I had a few beers, smoked a few cigarettes and looked at cute girls with Tim. We both seem to think we know what the other likes apparently because Tim stands there pointing girls out he think's I'd like and I do the same for him. Then he's like, "How much do I have to pay you to go talk to that asian?" It was funny, but really- I don't know how to talk to girls or be outgoing in that way. I'm something of a wallflower I guess.

While we're watching the opening band Marty comes sauntering over and seeming a little out of it and he's got a beer in one hand and a pitcher of beer in the other and he's drinking out of the pitcher! It was hilarious, I love that guy! And we're laughing and having a good time and this girl behind us pukes on the floor and Marty almost stepped in it. I was able to point it out and keep his shoes clean. It was a ton of fun, I haven't gone out to a bar and seen live music in ages.

Playing during the week

Playing during the week is a bad idea, and we should know that- yet for some reason we did the unthinkable and played a weeknight show. I don't know why we had to play during the week and as far as I'm concerned- there will be no more shows during the middle of the week, with the exception of Dimdy's pub crawls on thursdays. The show was pathetic, and a brutal reminder of how hard it was gigging back in the Silent Q days. For a few years now, dating back to Silent Q's re-emergence into the music scene, we've had it easy. We hadn't had to play a show during the week in years, and trust me when I say we did our time playing to thankless crowds and sometimes less people than I have fingers.

Suffice it to say, by the time we went on at midnight I could have given a shit about how we played because A) I was trashed and B) there were literally 9 people there- not counting other band memebers. It was pointless, a farce, futile, counter productive, worthless and unrewarding. On the up side, the Way Out club is a really cool bar- which I'm sure we could pack on a weekend show. And they have Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat on tap, which makes them ok in my book.

John "The Impaler" Sharky

All you need to do is check this out because this guy makes Howard Dean look sane... Have a look at John "The Impaler" Sharkey.

Aparently all you need to run for governer these days is some spandex tights, an insane plan, and a D20.

Back to School

Well my sister has gone back to school, and I'll be going back as well tommorow. The time really flew by while she was in town, and as with all things you enjoy- it always seems to come to an end before you're ever willing to let it go. On the upside, now that school in back in session I'm sure the time will pass even faster as I'm on my way to graduation this coming May. I've been working hard to finish this, and the payoff better be sweet. But that means it's show time, it's time to see if you've really got what it takes, because all school is- is a distraction until you're truly ready to join the real world. It's a prolonging of decision which lets you feel like you're doing something important, when in fact the all important, life defining thing you're supposed to do comes at the end of school, after the fact.

Tonight is practice, just like every monday night. But usually the week of a show, it's a little more intense. At least for me. I pay a little more attention to memorization of what to play, when to change, the counts and measures, making sure I do it right. I am looking forward to the show weds night, I hope lots of people come and it goes as well as the last show. And I wish someone would send us some pictures from the last show!

Anyhow, it's incredibly nice outside for it being January- nearly 60 degrees! There's not much to do until practice tonight though. So I guess I'll be lounging around the house in the meantime.

Show?

Well a week from tommorow we have a show... I think. According to the Way Out club's website some band called Aces and Eights is playing, but they told us we're playing that night. We don't know anything about that band. Heather tells us we don't have anything to worry about, but it isn't inconcivable that they double booked- it has happend before. I suppose the best way to decide who gets the stage that night is an old fashioned bass-off. That's right, we'll match bass riffs for the audience's applause to see who gets the stage. Judges will be Bill Cosby, but because Bill Cosby is unable to attend, Gary will be taking the chair as Bill Cosby, or Dr. Huxtable. Either way there will be Jello and Jello shooters. Tim will be donning an afro or a fade cut and taking the place of Theo Huxtable, who could not make it because he got busted buying crack from a yeti. The second judge will be Marty the impartial, when he get's mad he throws large heaps of self confidence and adulation your way like, "hey man, you played great! everyone said the show went awsome!" When in darkness mode, it's seriously too much to handle no matter how cool he is. Judge #3 is a shared seat between Captain Bitchtits and Guy with the Shitlocks from J-H. To show you their appreciation they tell you they'll let you go on last so they can leave once they're done, but don't forget to hold onto their cut for them. So that's about it, expect the unexpected next weds night, January 18th.

Stockholm Syndrome

Tim made this Muse cd for me a long time ago that I never really paid much attention to. I liked the stuff well enough but never got really hooked. But for some reason last night around 2:00 in the a.m. I was thinking about those wailing notes and piano pieces and sythesizer parts and found myself half asleep rummaging through my cd wallet looking for that damn cd. I fell asleep listening to Tim's greatest hits- Muse cd. It's late again, and I'm tired again, so I'm going to bed but I'm bringing this cd.

This is the last time I'll abandon you
And this is the last time I'll forget you
I wish I could
And I wish I could

Hostel

Last night was a ton of fun which seemed to never end and continue on until the wee hours of the morning. Starting off the night was John, Beth, Steve-O, Tim and myself going to see Hostel- which was all kinds of fucked up. It was on the gorey side and highly disturbing, but we all had a good laugh at some of the silly things in it.

Then Beth and I went and watched Tim's soccer game, which we turned out to be horrifically bad luck. Tim apparently scored a goal, but we didn't see it because we were laughing about this girl who took a ball off her chest and I said something like, "her boobs are probably bleeding now" and we almost fell off the bleachers laughing. Tim's team was not very good, and all his teammates were like 40. We thought one guy was going to have a heart attack on the field.

After the game, the three of us went back to Beth's house and after stopping off for taco bell- we watched High Tension. Tim and I had never seen it before, but it didn't help that it kept switching off between subtitles and english dubbed throughout the movie. It was not what I thought it was going to be- the main character turns into Tyler Durden basically. I wasn't that impressied with the movie.

But on the whole, the evening was so much fun. I didn't get home till almost 2:30 last night and this morning I overslept. I'm waiting for my sister to get out of the shower so we can go meet our mom for lunch. We have to scramble because we should have been up an hour ago. But I think she's done, so it's time to go.

Post-party time

Last night's birthday party for John was loads of fun! But Dave&Buster's never seems to let us down, although when we got to earth city it smelled like something crawled into Julies engine and died. I thought Gary shit his pants, but I guess it was the river because it was rank outside.

There were somewhere between 20-35 people there I'd say. They covered 2 pool tables for all of us to eat on. We had some decent food (mine wasn't that great) and exspensive beer (I paid $4.50 for a Newcastle! and later $5.00 for a 20 oz bud light!) But it was a great time, being able to have so many people together at once.

I'm thinking about going down to the Hi Pointe tommorow night to see The Bureau, check them out here for more info and go see 'em, even if the Hi Pointe is a fucking shithole run by a bunch of pricks and sounds guys with attitude problems and usually have bands like JH play who are a bunch of cocksuckers....

Practice makes perfect

Practice was short but sweet last night. Heather failed to show up again, and I fear she's cheating on us with another band. We worked on the new songs, and the cover. As long as Heather starts showing up for practice, we should be able to play Dead Leaves and a Dirty Ground at the next show. We're playing at the Way Out club on Jefferson on January 18th, a weds night. I don't know if this is the "off" season for music or what, but if was can maintain playing a show every month through winter I will be very happy.

John's birthday party is tommorow night at Dave and Busters, it should be fun. I think theres going to be a shitload of people there too. We went there for Beth's birthday party last year, or 2 years ago and we had a great time- hit the casino afterwards too- and then she told some stranger she had to pee. Good times!

New years pictures!

One of these years...

One of these years I'm going to swear off New Years Eve, because yet again I end up feeling like death in the middle of the night and puking. Luckily the first puke made it into the trash bin in the bathroom and I had the presence of mind to take the puke filled bag to the trash cans in the garage and not leave it in the bathroom, stinking the fuck out the the room. After that I got what we call the "puke pail" out of the basement, which is just a green plastic bucket to put next to the bed if you have to barf. I went and chugged down like 3 huge glasses of water cause I was really thirsty and went to bed. Half an hour later I sat up in bed, grabbed the pail and heaved all that water back up. Apparently it was so loud my mom came in at 5am when I was evacuating my stomache for the 2nd time and asked if I was alright in mid-spew. Once I got it all out of me the 2nd time, I drank some more water and went to bed. I woke up around 11 and felt fine. No headache, no nausea, just a little sleepy cause my rest was interrupted for like an hour this morning for vomit time.
